What is a Sexological Bodyworker?

Sexological Bodyworkers are somatic, erotic educators, assisting individuals, couples and groups to deepen their experience of embodiment.

We are trained sexologists whose certification is approved by the State of California. We offer experiential learning opportunities that consciously access profound ecstatic and erotic states.

Our teaching involves a variety of educational modalities, including breathwork, touch, erotic massage, pelvic release bodywork, and masturbation coaching.

Sexological Bodyworkers believe that sexual health and erotic education are basic human rights.

“Sexual arousal may induce an altered state of consciousness that is available to anyone willing to explore it. But, as with meditation and shamanic journeying, the non-ordinary conscious state generated in sustained sexual arousal constitutes and opportunity one must learn to use."
-Dr. John Ryan Haule

Our Students

We work with individuals who wish to explore what is erotically possible. Many sexological bodyworkers specialize in guiding individuals, couples and groups into the mystical and shamanic aspects of human sexuality. Although we come from many spiritual and religious traditions, we all acknowledge the spiritual dimensions of sexuality.

We also work with adult individuals who have experienced inadequate sexual education from family, religion, school, and health care professionals. Some people seek our teaching because sexual shame has damaged their self-image, interfered with relationships, or even thwarted their ability to love. We consider pleasure a powerful and valuable form of education.

One of the educational experiences that sexological bodyworkers teach is state of arousal that is free of fantasy, unfinished emotional business, religious dogma, cultural caveats and habitual sexual behaviors. Helping others access and make use of such erotic states is foundational to the education we offer.

Group Learning

Teaching erotic embodiment skills to groups is the core of this new profession. Sexological Bodyworkers create astonishing environments for student-centered learning.

Being part of an erotic-learning community is an experience that should be available to everyone. Learning sex in a groups can release shame and help folks become more comfortable with their erotic body and its expression. Witnessing different people's erotic expressions can inspire us, give us permission to try new things, or relieve us of toxic insecurity.

Teaching Through Media

Sexological Bodyworkers also teach through media such as DVDs, CDs, podcasts, websites, books, and articles. For instance, over 30 Sexological Bodyworkers offer video teaching, demonstrations, and writing through the online New School of Erotic Touch. The latest book from a Sexological Bodyworker is "Erotic Massage: Sensual Touch for Deep Pleasure and Extended Arousal" by Charla Hathaway (2007). Sexological Bodyworker Tallulah Sulis just released her DVD "Divine Nectar: An Explosive Journey Through the Sacred Feminine"(2007). (And soon my book and DVDs will be added here!)

Educational Sessions

Some Sexological Bodyworkers offer sexual education to individuals and couples in a personalized course of three to ten sessions. Somatic transformation happens over time. We seldom work in single sessions.

You will start by creating an agreement stating your learning objectives and the modalities that will be used. Informed consent from the student precedes all Sexological Bodywork, and professional confidentiality is assured.

A series of introductory sessions allows you to experience the benefits of orgasmic breathing, Taoist Erotic Massage, pelvic relaxation and release work, and mindful masturbation. Our joint evaluation of these introductory sessions may suggest a specific goal or learning objective for future tutorials.

A crucial part of the education Sexological Bodyworkers offer students is the value of intentions and boundaries. While we acknowledge the human longing for connection, we recognize the value of professional distance. We are conscious and make our students conscious that while we share authentic intimacy, sexological bodywork sessions will not fulfill their desires for sexual connection.

The focus of individual sessions is on the student's experience within his or her own body. Sexological Bodyworkers do not act as surrogate partners. We are clothed and the touching in our sessions is uni-directional. We request students bring their partners when they wish to learn interpersonal erotic skills.

Sexological Bodyworkers are committed to complementing and extending the effectiveness of services offered by psychotherapists and other health care professionals. We value working in close partnership with these professionals but will do so only with your approval.

Many psychotherapists find that Sexological Bodywork speeds up the therapeutic process. In the three-minute video clip below, psychologist Jack Morin Ph.D. tells about his own experience in referring clients to Sexological Bodyworkers. (The clip is at www.sexologicalbodywork.com and on you tube, and on my myspace…can you get it to be here too?)
